Wage Hope with Stan’s and New Balance Milwaukee.

This November, Stan’s Fit For Your Feet and New Balance Milwaukee are joining the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to Wage Hope. At each of our Stan’s and New Balance Milwaukee locations, customers will have the opportunity to round their purchase up to the nearest dollar, or make an additional donation, with proceeds going to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

It is easy to see why this work is so important. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-based death in the United States and is expected to become the second leading cause by 2020. Its five-year survival rate is only six percent, with roughly 73 percent of patients dying in the first year of diagnosis. Unfortunately, there are neither early detection methods nor effective treatment options.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is working to change this. It is a nationwide organization dedicated to advancing research, supporting patients and creating hope for those impacted by this terrible disease. The network works tirelessly to raise funds and advocate for more research, even making regular trips to Capitol Hill to educate members of Congress about pancreatic cancer. On November 5, several members of the Milwaukee affiliate generously attended our all-staff meeting to tell us more about the disease and what needs to be done to help.

Like many who have been inspired to join this cause, pancreatic cancer is personal for the Stan’s and New Balance Milwaukee team. Suzanne “Sue” Sajdak Sakwinski, the daughter of our founder, Stan Sajdak, and a beloved member of our Stan’s team for 33 years, passed away earlier this year after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Like many who this illness has taken before their time, Sue was full of life, sharing her love of friends, family and art with everyone she encountered. We learned what pancreatic cancer can do to our loved ones, and we want to work with the network to be part of the solution.
