As a local business, the start of the holiday season is one of our favorite times of the year! We are excited to start the holiday season by participating in Small Business Saturday on November 26th along with many other local Milwaukee businesses!

Most consumers are influenced by price and quality of the product or service they’re considering while shopping. While price and quality are important, it is also important to think about how our purchases ultimately impact our own community. This holiday season, we are encouraging the Milwaukee community to join in on the fun on Small Business Saturday by shopping at the small businesses that directly contribute to the vibrant culture of Milwaukee!

So what exactly is Small Business Saturday and how did it start? Back in 2010, American Express launched Small Business Saturday on November 27—the Saturday after Thanksgiving and Black Friday—to support small businesses across the nation during the holiday shopping season. A year later, Small Business Saturday was officially recognized by the U.S. Senate. By 2012, every state in the union championed Small Business Saturday. Since then, an increasing amount of shoppers have supported Small Business Saturday, with 95 million people going out to shop their neighborhood businesses in 2015. This year, let’s come together as a community to help the small businesses of Milwaukee shine bright during the holiday season!

By supporting local businesses, you’re making sure that more of your money benefits your own community. According to Local First Milwaukee, “for every $1 spent at a locally owned business, more than $0.68 remains in Milwaukee, compared to the $0.43 that stays here from national chains.” By shopping at local businesses, you’re helping your neighbors support their families and contribute to the Milwaukee community. At Stan’s, giving back to our community is at the heart of what we do. With the support of our customers, we are able to give to local non-profits through monthly round-up campaigns and our Share-A-Pair shoe drive. Supporting organizations such as, Susan G. Komen of Southeast WI, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Milwaukee Affiliate, Fr. Gene’s Help Center, Repairer’s of the Breach, and many more, allow us to ensure that our efforts directly help our own community. This is our own special way of giving back to the community that has supported us for 66 years.

As you begin your holiday shopping this year, take some time to explore the many local businesses that make Milwaukee the amazing city that it is. You’ll feel great that knowing that your purchases are helping your neighbors and that you’ve found unique gifts for everyone on your list!

Happy Holidays!
