A new year is here! 2014 offers a chance to evaluate your goals and set resolutions. Here are some tips and ideas for making 2014 your best year yet.
Many people set goals for the new year but have a hard time maintaining them. The first couple weeks are full of excitement and motivation, but after about a month, you may be frustrated and feeling defeated. Sound familiar?
This year, break your bigger aims into smaller objectives. Set targets that are attainable and that will not become a burden. For example, if you are looking to lose weight, don’t expect to drop 40 pounds in a few weeks. If you want to run a race but have not exercised in awhile, start by walking or going for short jogs before moving up to longer workouts. Form small goals, and be patient.
Working toward your goals is more fun when you have a partner at your side. Find a friend with a similar objective and be each other’s biggest cheerleaders. If you want to eat healthier, get the whole family involved. It is easier to stay on track if people around you are trying to achieve the same thing. It is also way more fun!!
Write your goals down. Tell your friends and family. This will help you stay accountable and on track during the year. If you are feeling discouraged, your friends and family will remember what you were striving toward and motivate you to keep your eyes on the prize.
Don’t see setbacks as failures. Let each stumbling block be an opportunity to get back up and try again. It is rare to arrive at a destination without having made a few mistakes along the way.
When you are starting to think of your goals as chores or burdens, turn those negative thoughts into positive self talk. Think of your daily workout as a time to de-stress and focus on YOU! Don’t see your diet as a stressor; view it as a lifestyle change leading to a healthier, happier you.
