Believe it or not, the new school year is right around the corner! Every year, school supply shopping lists consist of new pencils, folders and notebooks. Are new shoes on your child’s back to school list, too? With your little one’s feet growing at a rapid rate, it’s important to make sure they’re wearing the proper size and have the proper footwear for running in gym class or singing in the choir.

Just like our adult footwear selection, we carry multiple kids brands with different features so everyone leaves our stores with happy feet.

Mary Sue, our Manager and Fit Specialist at Stan’s in Brookfield, specializes in fitting children. Mary Sue has been working with little feet for 39 years! She has great tips on why it is important for your kids to have quality footwear not only for their school year, but for all year!

“Children’s feet are constantly growing,” says Mary Sue. “The bones in their feet aren’t fully developed until about age 2 or 3. Buying kids shoes with proper support aids in healthy foot development.”

“Our elite tennis shoes for kids are New Balance,” says Mary Sue. “They come in a variety of widths ranging from medium to extra wide. Another wonderful brand of tennis shoes for kids is Tsukihoshi, pronounced ski-ho-she. These shoes are machine washable, making cleaning them a breeze. Clarks kids footwear range from casual shoes to dress shoes to boots and include velcro, slip on and tie styles. We also carry an extensive line of Keen footwear for kids, from sandals, tennis shoes, hiking shoes…even casual styles. Keen has footwear for every season. Some styles are completely waterproof!”

Here are a few tips from Mary Sue on kids footwear:

1) Kids’ feet produce 1/2 to one pint of moisture per day. Wearing socks can help with blisters and sweat. Also, buying shoes made of leather, canvas or mesh helps in breathability.

2) Using a Stan’s protector spray on your child’s shoes is a huge help. Stan’s protector spray will make the shoes water repellent and help keep dirt away, making the shoes easier to clean.

3) Visit us every 3-4 months so our Fit Specialists can check to ensure your child is wearing the correct size. Their feet grow fast, and a check-up is free. If there’s growing room, we’ll let you know!

At Stan’s, we enjoy the Back to School hype! We’re offering great deals on kids shoes during our Back to School event, now through August 31st. We’re also hosting a Design-A-Shoe contest for the little ones! Kids aged 12 and under can show their creativity by designing a shoe of their own! The winner will receive Clarks shoes for their entire family! Don’t miss out on the party…our Kids Shoe Parties, hosted by Clarks! The parties are at Stan’s in Greenfield on Friday, August 15, Brookfield, Saturday, August 16 and Glendale, Sunday, August 17, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
